Are you aging yourself prematurely?
I often hear comments like, “You look younger than ever, Carol.” Today, I want to share the key practices I’ve used over the past 17 years to reclaim my vitality and health. This transformation has been intentional. I’ve focused on learning about my body and skin and utilizing resources that have truly made a difference.
I genuinely appreciate the kind words and compliments. However, my goal isn’t to turn back the clock out of fear of aging. I believe “Growing old is inevitable. How we age is a choice.” The body has incredible potential for healing and maintaining health, and my journey has been about harnessing that potential—avoiding premature aging and restoring vitality.
In our culture, youth is often overvalued, but growing older is a natural part of life. The real question is: Are you prematurely aging? And are there steps to slow or even reverse that process? The answer is yes, and today, I’ll share the top strategies that have worked for me. I’d love to hear what has helped you, too.

5 ways to “reverse” the aging process.

In 2004, I started Dressing Your Truth. I was 47 years old, and it was a turning point for me. Learning about the elements of design—line, texture, pattern, fabrication, and color—and how they relate to personal energy types transformed my approach to fashion. Women especially age themselves by wearing the wrong colors and fabrics. By discovering my true style, I stopped aging prematurely and began to present my best self.

About 10 years ago, I realized my skin was aging rapidly. I dove into learning about skin health and found natural ways to restore it. This included understanding the importance of hydration, proper nutrition, and gentle skincare routines. While I do use a bit of Botox to soften lines, I’ve avoided invasive procedures. I have always focused on natural methods and holistic care, significantly improving my skin’s vitality.

Entering my 50s, I noticed how ingrained beliefs about aging affected my mindset and health. Our culture often links aging with decline, but I decided to challenge that narrative. I stopped attributing discomforts to aging and instead focused on structural health and nutrition. This mindset shift was crucial. Believing in the body’s ability to heal and maintain vitality has kept me feeling younger and more vibrant.

Cleaning up my diet has truly been a game-changer in reversing my age. By eliminating sugar, gluten, and simple carbs, and instead focusing on whole foods and plant-based sweeteners like monk fruit, I’ve experienced significant improvements in my physical health and mental well-being. This shift has not only helped me manage my weight and maintain steady energy levels, but it has also laid a strong foundation for my overall health. In addition to improving my diet, adding a consistent fitness routine that incorporates strength training, cardio, core work, and exercises for flexibility and balance has amplified these benefits. The combination of nutrition and fitness has been key to supporting my vitality, resilience, and overall sense of well-being as I age.

Your hairstyle can dramatically affect how young or old you look. Finding the right hairstyle that complements your Energy Type and face shape is essential. I experimented with different styles and found one that truly reflects my Type 3, secondary 4 energy. The right cut and color can lift your features and give you a fresher, more vibrant look.
My Experience
Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that aging in reverse is not about trying to look younger for vanity’s sake. It’s about embracing the body’s natural ability to rejuvenate and maintain health. These five areas—Dressing Your Truth, skin health, belief systems, diet, and hair care—have contributed to my overall vitality and well-being. I’ve enjoyed a vibrant, healthy life at every age by making intentional choices and learning about what works best for my body.
